“Here’s a story of a lovely lady…”
Invitations
- You can create fun, cheap invitations with heavy paper (card stock.) Find an old photo of your “Guest of honor.” Place this on the front of the invitation. On the inside you can put a funny saying like:
“Here’s a story of a lovely lady
Who was turning 50 in a month.
She had 3 kids that planned a party
Please come and have some fun!”
WHEN: Saturday, August 29, 2009 at 7pm
WHERE: 53 Tullimore Drive, Jamison, PA 90210
RSVP: 555-1212 by August 20
*this is a Family affair, please come dressed as your favorite family member. Prizes will be awarded to the best dressed!
Decorations
Create the “Brady Squares” from your friends. Get pictures of 9 of the people that are coming to the party, blow them up (either on your computer or send them to a photo place for about $2 a copy) and organize them on your wall like the Brady’s. This is a cheap funny decoration.
Create the 40’s, 50’s, 60’s, 70’s or 80’s in your living room! Buy some “year appropriate” slip covers for your couches. Go to your local thrift stores and hunt for lamps and wall hangings from the appropriate year. Again, this is a cheap way to decorate!
Baby Photo Contest – have each guest email you their baby picture. Print them out and arrange them, numbered, on poster board. Don’t forget to put out some ballots. Before starting this game, make sure all your guests have arrived. This way if people don’t know each other, they can take a guess as to whose picture is whose.
Name your drinks for different family members. Create a menu for the bar so people can order. Hint: Use your left over liquor from your bar, to save some money. Here are some examples:
o Groovy Punch – a sherbet punch
o Jan’s Juice – Vodka and cranberry
o Mike’s Mango Mamba – Gin and pineapple juice
o Kitty Carryall’s Cocktail - Rum and coke.
*If you aren’t serving alcohol, substitute your favorite cocktail!
Favors
I would suggest using prizes instead of favors for this type of party.
Get trophies made for the costume contest winners.
Give your favorite Old TV Sitcoms DVD’s as prizes.
Give out CD’s with music from the “guest of honor’s” era.
Games
Costume contest – everyone that attends has to dress like one of the characters. Have ballots at the door so everyone can vote for their favorite Brady!
Letter Game – give everyone a piece of paper with BRADY BUNCH on it. They pair up and have to come up with 1 word beginning with each letter of the name that has to do with the sitcom. (EXAMPLE: B = Bobby, R = Red Nose ‘remember when Marcia got hit with a football and her nose swelled?’ A = architect ‘the profession of Mike Brady,” etc.) The more creative the answers, the funnier. Have each team vote on the answer if there is a question. VARIATION: You can also use your last name and have people write things about your family!!!
Wig Relay – get a bunch of wigs that match the family’s hairstyles (if you are doing a Brady party, get blonde 70’s wigs, wigs with ponytails, etc.) Have each guest sit within a “reaching” distance to other guests. Put on some music (preferably 70’s hits) and have the participants pass the wigs around. When the music stops, the last person with the wig on their head is out. Play until you have only 1 person left. Hint: Have the other guest’s help you judge!
Brady Trivia
Notes
To make an adult party a success, I would suggest a lot of enthusiasm and get a little crazy! Go with the flow…but try to get everyone to participate. The more participation, the better (and funnier) the games will be!
