Blast From The Past Party

Travel back in time to when the guest of honor was born…

Invitations

To make your own invitations using card stock, draw a “time warp” on the front of the invite. Make sure you include all the information for the party. See photo:

Decoration Ideas
Hang swirlies from your ceiling… To make everyone think they are in a “time warp or time machine.” They are very easy to make from construction paper.

Serve food from the decade the guest of honor was born. Or should I say “label” the food from the era the guest of honor is from… (use your creativity)  Ex: Lovely pie, Gay Spring Salad, Betty Crockers Best Chocolate
Cake, 1950s New and Improved Taco Dip, Groovy Guacamole Dip.

Play old music, movies or sitcoms during the party to create the ambiance.

Place a disco ball up or you can purchase “Groovy colorful lighting” from a party store for a small price. (lava lamps, colorful bulbs, etc.)

Blow up a bunch of baby/childhood pictures of the Birthday guy/gal and hang them around the party room

Favors/ Prizes

Get everyone a pair of 3-D glasses as favors - the key is to make them wear them the whole time!

Get funny T-shirts made of the Birthday Person. Each guest gets one. Use either a childhood picture of them or a funny recent picture of them.

You can use the sayings… “I survived Jen’s 50th birthday bash…” “If found, please return to the 1940’s.” “This woman is 50!” ETC… To save money, you can also make these T-shirts yourself using Iron-on paper from your local craft store.

Prizes can be something little. For example, $10 Gift Cards to a book store, liquor store, convient store, etc.

Games
  • Dance Off – have people enter a dance competition. Choose 4 – 5 guests as judges. You can use dances like “the Twist,” “the Hand Jive,” “The Bop,” “the Cha-cha.” Have certificates as prizes for each person (ex: best footwork, most creative dancer, most exotic dancer, etc.) You can research these dances on the internet. ADULT DANCE CERTIFICATE

  • 30’s, 40’s, 50’s, 60’s, 70’s Celebrity Trivia (click on the year you want).

  •  What were the prices in the 30’s, 40’s, 50’s, 60’s and 70’s. Set out a table filled with different items from your house. (examples: loaf of bread, sneakers, pens, empty container of milk, postage stamp, picture of a gas company, etc. ) NOTE: YOU WILL HAVE TO RESEARCH THEIR FORMER PRICES ON THE INTERNET. Also set out prices on index cards. Have the guests try to place the correct index card (price) with the item. Give away the items as prizes!! People will laugh when they get a loaf of bread as a prize.

  • How well do you know the guest of honor? Create a quiz about the guest of honor. Pass out the quizzes to all the guests and see who knows the birthday person the best. To make it more funny…put the birthday person on the spot. Have them answer the questions in front of the group.
Notes

Be creative with this party. It’s about the Birthday person’s year of birth. Research using your internet and see what else happened in the year the Birthday guy/gal was born!
