Preschool “Bubbles/Balloons” Lesson Plan
Ages 2 – 5
45 minutes
Circle Time
Book – “Bubbles Bubbles”
Actions: Have children do what the bubbles do
· Pop, pop, pop
· On my nose, on my toes
· Float up top
· Everywhere
Discussion: Why do bubbles float? (lighter than air) Where do you think they go? (imagination)
Imaginary bubble ride – have children sit in hula hoops and pretend they are bubbles. Ask them where they are “floating”. Fast or slow. Up or Down. And the POP!!!!
Activity: Tub Of Water
Materials: Wash basin and a few random items (packing peanut, paper clip, coin, ball, rubber band)
· Fill the basin with water OR (for a small group) give each child a bin of water and the items listed above
· One at a time describe an item and have the children find that item and guess if it will sink or float
· Test it!!!!
Bubble Dance
· Pump Up the Music and arm the teachers with bubbles (or if you are outside you can give the children bubbles). Blow and have the children dance and pop.
· Bubble Wrap Dance – set out some different size bubble wrap and take children’s shoes off. Allow them to dance on them and POP POP POP!!!
Bubble Makers
· Pour bubble solution into large tin pans
· Set out different “bubble makers” such as straws, large bubble wands, small bubble wands, pipe cleaners formed into rings, string.
Balloon Tap – indoor or outdoor
· Blow up a few balloons
· Decide if there are rules (inside – sitting, kneeling, hands only) or no rules (outside – standing, running, use feet).
· How many times can children tap the balloon into the air without the balloon hitting the ground
· Try a game of balloon volleyball
Crafts
Balloon Man
Materials: 8.5” x 11” Tagboard, marker and large balloon
· Draw a heart the entire length of the tagboard (these will be the feet)
· Cut out this shape
· Cut a slit from the pointy end of the tagboard with a small circle at the end (in order to slide the balloon knot)
· Blow up the balloon and decorate with a face
· Slide the balloon onto the feet and watch him walk
Balloon Paint
Blow up different size balloons and allow children to paint with them on large pieces of paper.
