Slithery, Slimy, Ssssssensational Fun!
Invitations
Cut a snake shape from a piece of construction paper. Have the birthday child decorate it and print out all the party information from your computer. You can then cut and glue the party information to the “Snake.” Fold up and put into an envelope…remember to have the head peeking out when the guest opens the card.
Decorations
Snake hangings – see picture – cut a circle out of construction paper. Have the kids color it. Cut in a circular motion around the circle and it creates a snake.
Serve gummy creatures (things snakes would eat.) Gummy snakes, mice, bugs, etc.
Place rubber snakes all around and darken all the lights, like you are in a snake borrow.
Favors (also see craft section)
Fake teeth (like snake fangs!) or Party Horns (like a snake tongue)
Cobra Hats - Use foam visors (you can purchase at a craft store or $ store.) Have the kids decorate the inside. When they wear these hats they, instead of putting them on top of their heads, they can put the string from the back of their neck to the top of their head (so the visor makes the cobra’s hood.)
Games
Poisonous or nonpoisonous – a trivia game
Stomp the snake – place a bunch of plastic snakes on the ground, have the kids walk around them while music is playing. Once the music stops, they have to stand on a snake (play like musical chairs.) Take a snake away each round. Winner gets a plastic snake.
Slithery Jump – you will need a jump rope for this game. Have the kids get in line and 2 adults hold the jump rope. The adults start with the rope on the floor and they wiggle it like a snake. The kids take turns jumping over the rope, if the kids touch the rope, they are out. Each round the adults lift the “snake” off the ground slightly.
Snake Race – You will need 4 hula hoops for this game. Split the children into 2 teams. Place 2 hula hoops on the ground in a row in front of each team (each team gets 2 hoops.) Each team must slither “THROUGH” each hula hoop without using their hands! When the person in front gets through the 2nd hoop, the next person in line may go. Winner is the first team to get everyone through both hoops!
Crafts

Snake placemats – have each kid draw and color snakes on a piece of paper. Cover these drawings with contact paper and they can use these as placemats.
Snake Hangings – see picture – cut a circle out of construction paper. Have the kids color it. Cut in a circular motion around the circle and it creates a snake.
Playdough – have the kids make their own! Recipe below:
2 cups flour
2 cups warm water
1 cup salt
2 Tablespoons vegetable oil
1 Tablespoon cream of tartar
Kool Aid Mix
Mix everything together and stir in saucepan over LOW heat. It will begin to form. When it forms into “dough” split it up for all the kids. Have them add the kool aid for color.
The kids can create their own snakes!
