Decorations
- Get plastic dog bowls for everyone to eat from (they can use silverware, of course – or Not!)
- Find a plastic white table cloth and draw a bunch of black spots on it
- Place paw prints on the floor as a “path” to get to the party. Or just put paw print all over the place!
Favors
- You can make cookies shaped as dogs or dog bones for the guests to take home. Or better yet, have that as an activity. The kids can make and decorate their own “bone” cookies!
- At your local grocery store you can buy “Scooby Snacks.” They are graham crackers that are shaped like Scooby snacks. The kids will have fun munching on them or you can send them home with a “dog bowl” full as a treat!
Dog Party Games
- Woof contest – the adults get to judge. Have the kids make their best dog sound and the best one wins (or they all win!)
- Guess the dog – as each guest comes in, they get a dog breed. Throughout the party they have to act like that dog (ex: Golden Retriever (Lab) – very friendly / Boxer – tough / Poodle – very proper / German Shephard – talk with an accent / Dalmatian – act like a fireman) As each person guesses the dog correct, they collect the breed cards. The person with the most cards at the end wins!
- Capture the Dogs – go to your local craft store (or dollar store) and get a bunch of small plastic dogs. Hide all the dogs either around your house or outside your house. Have a hunt for the dogs – the person with the most wins! To keep people interested – the last dog found gets a prize too!
- Bobbing for Dog Bones – go to your local grocery store and get granola bars. Cut them into dog bone shapes and place them into a bucket of water. Have the kids try to grab one with their teeth, give prizes for the fastest.
- Dog Match Game
Crafts
- Dog bone ornaments – Use 2 pompoms and glue them together. Underneath that, glue a small dog bone to the pom-pom. Attach a string to the top pompom so you can hang it. Put eyes and ears on the top pompom to create a dog. Place a small bow on the bone.
- Make/decorate dog cookies – pre calculate the ingredients for each child and have them mix everything together and mix. Use dog cookie cutters or the pattern shown. Bake the cookies and when they cool, have the kids decorate with frosting, sprinkles, candy, etc.
- Foot/Hand painting – great craft for summer. Use the biggest sheets of paper you can find. Have the kids take off their shoes/socks and dip their hands and feet into tempera paint. They can “dog walk” all over the paper and create a masterpiece!
